Teaching Alphabetical Order // In a Fun, Hands On Way!
I love this idea, when I saw it I knew it would be perfect for teaching my child how to put words in alphabetical order, or ‘ABC Order.’ I wrote one word for each letter of the alphabet and then scrambled them up (make this harder by adding multiple words starting with the same letter for older kids, or even words that start with the same first 2 letters). I told my child we had to line up the words in ABC Order starting with A, then B, and so on. The possibilities of activities you could do with cups are endless, you could do sentence forming (one word on each cup) counting, word families, long/short vowel sounds, etc. Children being able to play ‘games’ and having the chance to manipulate the activity and objects in the activity with their own little hands is so meaningful. This is a great idea for those kinesthetic learners who like to wiggle and move around- here they can do just that, with the cups!
