Reading Comprehension Book Covers

This activity is used to help children strengthen their reading comprehension. When a child is done reading a book, have them make a book cover as a summary of the entire book. On the front, the child draws a picture of their favorite part of the book. On the back, the child will write a brief review of the story of the book. The middle is a timeline of the key events and the order they happen in the book. You could also add more pictures to the timeline if you would like as well. This is a great exercise and can be used for children as young as kindergarten all the way through high school. I would allow the child to reference the book if needed, when reviewing and trying to remember all the details will help them understand the story even better.

This is a great reading comprehension activity for your learners to who love draw and doodle.  After completing the writing portion, they can draw as many matching pictures as they want!  This also helps practice elements of text such as summary, sequence, main idea and details, and determining importance.
